And rode the hell out of it today. Had a blast, and also discovered that the kickstand switch (which keeps the bike from starting if the kickstand is down, apparently this is very uncommon on bikes) was wonky, and causing it to stall sometimes, the Enfield forums provided me with the quick fix of just unplugging said switch, and boom, no more stalling.

My boy likes it too!

The original problem I put it into the shop for, the massive oil leak, was apparently caused by there being too much oil actually in the crankcase, and the extra pressure blew out the seal on the kickstart shaft. Go figure. So now I should be good to ride! Hopefully. For a while. It is a British design, after all.

Weird, everyone I've talked to was confused that it had one. My dad took several minutes to figure it out, and he's been riding for 40ish years.

to be fair....most of your mainly prevent the engine from running while the bike is in gear and the stand is down. so if your in neutral then it will start even with stand down

Really? South of the border, I know a lot of Harley guys without kickstand switches.

They all drop it into first and ride off to pull up the stand without even a toe off the floor boards.

My bike starts with the stand down and the clutch pulled; then it dies as you let the lever out if you don't kick the stand up and the bike is in gear.

Congrats on getting your bike back! I have a black RE classic 500. They're such fun bikes! Mine got me into the Iron Butt Association when I did about 1100 miles in under 24 hours. I don't recommend trying that, as it caused quite a scare (medically) due to the vibration. But the shorter rides feel like I'm getting away with riding a bicycle on the freeway!

The best thing you can do to them is buy a tube of Loctite and spend a day removing and reinstalling every bolt you can reach.

On my BMW; kickstand down? No engine running for you! Same as the kill switch. Doesn't mater what the clutch or shifter is doing. The center stand has no lockout though.

The center stand makes sense as you lift the rear wheel off the ground. It's used for maintenance purposes, but it seems odd that it won't let you start in neutral w/ kickstand down. I learned something new.

Imma Stick with my 1300 though for now.

Man, even your lousy weather is good. And Carbon is the best town name I've heard in a long while!

We've got some of my dad or me on the bike with my kids on in front. I have one of me with 2 of three in front as well. The oldest is too big to fit with me and his bros. Enjoy the good and cherish the memories. Its all over too fast.
